Important General Comment: HOCOC enjoys supporting HO racing by sanctioning races. With HO racing covering a wide expanse of the USA and growing in popularity we acknowledge such and include notice of notable events taking place from North to South, East to West and Sea to Shining Sea. We do this in support of HO racing across the land. Making you aware of HO activities. And in hope of gaining some recognition and visibilty ourselves. Our goal is defined to encourage participation and use HOCOC when possible. But certainly there are many organized groups and clubs who have been up and running successfully for years. We salute them and from time to time we will let you know of any major events they may have in their schedules. Some that come to mind would be; The Quarrel(Wisconsin), The Spring Fling(Jim Nagy), Fray In Ferndale(Rich Phillis), The G-Jet Enduro(John Stezelecki), The ECHORS Events(Hiram Durant), The Livoniapolis 500(Jan & Austin Lesterhuis), The Southern 500 at Mopar Mountain(Ron Fields), The Grillin' 'N Chillin' 500(Jim, my last name really is, Hoar), National Sportsman Championship(NSCS) HOCOC Sanctioned Point Series & Championship, and others that I unintentionally leave out. Most or all have their own specific prerace rundown for their events and they have the absolute say about those events. Anything posted here beyond a notice comes with that caveat. Even a notice may be unintendedly mistated due to an update on their event. So make sure you check with the Organization running the event for their rules, instructions, directions and all the information neccessary if you are going to enter the event. Thank you. RU

Alternates will be used for those that cannot or do not show up for the event. Example if a Gold Cup team member does not make the show, the first person to get on a Gold Cup team will be from the Silver Cup team #1, moving the 1st place driver from Silver Cup team #2 driver on to the Silver Cup Team #1 team and so on... From there on, the alternates will move up according to their finishing position in the qualifiers. I would suggest that any one who was in one of the G-Jet ASRL Shootout Qualifiers to make the show that day. Sincerely, Matthew G. Patrick

Messages from the desks of Rich, Dr. Speed, Dumas & Al Perschilli
Greetings Racers!
The Big Dog Shootout is only days away. For those of you that have never been to East Haven Raceway you should know that the table is only two feet high and stools are available for racers that prefer to sit down while they race. The straights are not quite as long as the ones at Big Bend but you are going to need some horsepower to keep up.
I have a spare Vintage Tin car available, it is getting a fresh paint job today. I also have spare NSC cars.
As usual I will have soda, water and a snack available. For those that want real food there are lots of takeout places within a 5 minute drive.
If anyone needs directions in this age of GPS units please let me know.
Rich Dumas
I'll have a few Vintage Tin and Sportsman cars to loan
at East Haven if anyone is in need of a car.

RACE COMMENTARY, Feb. 6th, 2010
Place: Big Bend Speedway
102 Overlook Drive
Windsor, Connecticut
Event: Regular Scheduled Race Program
Program Card: Indy Cars, Jalopies, Fray & Classic Stock
Big Bend Speeday kicked off another of it's 09/10 season races this past Saturday. Racers began arriving early Friday evening with Matt, Coupe Man, King of the Coupes, Patrick & Jim, Ayup, Hoar coming in from the Windham Maine area. Gates opened early and the field began to assemble. By race time this event, as have been the previous races, showed a larger than usual field. This event saw a total of 20 racers!!! That's close to double the usual size. They came from Maryland, New York, Mass., Rhode Island, Maine and Connecticut. The event saw 2 very special racers, Hiram, ECHORRS, Durant and Dave, DBL Controllers, Lockwood. Both these racers have an vast amount of knowledge about what makes these cars tick. And Dave Lockwood(DBL Controllers) can talk about how they are controlled to give the average racer insight into that important and valuable part of racing. While Hiram can tell you about the cars themselves he also is a great source of quality parts that he brought. Many at the race availed themselves on this. And Dave Lockwood supplied several DBL controllers for racers to use and give them an idea of DBL quality.
Goes without saying but it must be said that Promoters John and Mary provide more than just racing. They supply food and drink the day long in a friendly and fun atmosphere. John makes his decisions on race day based on what absolutely must be and that which is forgiving and results in keeping racers having a good time and a satisfying experience.
A sidenote: I and others have watched the improvement over time of one particular racer. That racer was 'GREEN' sometime back and had their trouble keeping the car on etc. Tracking out came frequently. Of recent, although not finishing up at the top, this racer has shown great improvement by staying in/on and finishing races. As well, if they have a decent ride they can get around the track very competitively. That racer is a quiet person and is very dependable and reliable to show up to race. POPS has been a very patient racer and is now having a lot more fun. He is also starting to give notice to the competiton that he is there and not to be ignored!!!! Way to go POPS. Steve is very proud of you. Hey, Sydney, Pops is waiting for you!!!
No shows: The following racers had prior committments: Rick, The Hammer, Hubbert, Mark, Killer, Kaminsky and Bill Bonsna.

Freezin' 250
12/31/10
14 drivers entered the 9th Annual Freezin' 250 on Saturday January 30, 2010. With temperatures hovering around zero in the morning, the 2010 version of the Freezin' 250 was appropriately named. By contrast the racing was hot in both the support race and the feature. The day saw a first time winner and a former winner repeat for the first time in 5 years.
BIG BLOCK T-JET SUPPORT RACE
Big Block is in its second year at SCCOTTT and is catching on, with many drivers using it as a tune up for the feature.
Warren Lux took pole position by one lap over Larry Weaver. It was a nice run and Lux's first pole at SCCOTTT. Weaver was tops among the Johnny Lightning runners. Jeff Collins and Mark Webster also made the final. Only two laps separated the top four.

Warren Lux lead at the start from Weaver. He kept the lead through the first half of the race but the other three stayed close. In the third segment Webster pulled himself into the lead. Lux fought back in the final segment and pulled out a half a lap lead. He held on to the end for his first ever final round win at SCCOTTT. He is now one of only 16 drivers with a Majors win in SCCOTTT/PRR history. Weaver had trouble late in the race but was still the top runner using a Johnny Lightning chassis. Webster and Collins kept Lux in sight throughout the race, but had to settle for 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Qualifying
Larry Weaver grabbed pole position, his first pole since May 30, 2004 and his first ever in a race for Super Stock/Fray style T-Jets. Mark Webster, one of the pre-race favorites, was next up, but two laps behind. Two of the other pre-race favorites, Scott Udave and Warren Lux, were next up, joined on 73 laps by 'Hoss' Phoenix. Ernie Langford was the final driver to transfer with 71. John Durbin and Jeff Collins just missed the cut at 70.

Las Chance Qualifier
John Durbin stunned everyone with a 74 lap run to crush the LCQ field and advance to the Semis. It was a four lap improvement. Dave Van Duzer was next up with 71 laps. Joe Saccomanno had his best run ever at SCCOTTT and nearly caught Van Duzer’s mark, but fell short and faced elimination. Collins and Ulinger were next up. Rick Roth and Don Brenner were both racing on the Bowman Grand Champion for the first time. Roth, an experienced T-Jet racer, did well to pull 67. Brenner surprised everyone. He was a last minute entry, missing qualifying entirely, and had never run a Super Stock T-Jet before, but still managed 66 laps. Matt Metcalf rounded out the field.

Semi Final Round
Semi #1
Larry Weaver took the lead at the start. Scott Udave closed in to challenge for the lead but then went off track and fell back. Udave eventually moved back into second and threatened Weaver once more. He was the fastest car on the track but mistakes cost him. At the finish Weaver was on top by one lap. Durbin dropped off two laps and found himself on the bubble for making the final. Phoenix struggled with motor problems and was eliminated.
1| 76 - Larry Weaver
2| 75 - Scott Udave
3| 72 - John Durbin
4| 69 - Jeff 'Hoss' Phoenix
Semi #2
Before Semi #2 was to begin, Dave Van Duzer was forced to drop out. That moved Joe Saccomanno into the Semis. It was the first time since March of ’06 that he had made the Semi round in a SCCOTTT Super Stock race.
Webster took the lead at the start and pulled out a decent gap over Lux, with Langford and Saccomanno further back. Eventually Lux began to close that gap and he and Webster developed an intense battle for most of the first half of the race. In the third segment, however, with Lux in the gutter, Webster stretched the lead and nearly put Lux a lap down. In the final segment, with the roles reversed, Lux closed on Webster but he could not quite get to him. The final margin was less than half of a lap.
1| 75 - Mark Webster
2| 74 - Warren Lux
3| 70 - Ernie Langford
4| 69 - Joe Saccomanno
Final
The final featured Weaver, Udave, Webster and Lux. Weaver had been on top all day with his Dave Hendrickson prepared car, but not by much. Udave was gridded second and hungry for his first ever SCCOTTT SS win. Webster was already a SCCOTTT winner and had been close to Weaver all day. Lux was going for the double after winning the Big Block race earlier in the day.
It was Webster who took the lead at the start and pulled away when the other three all went off track on lap two. Eventually things settled down and at the end of the first segment Webster lead Weaver by only 20 track sections. Udave was two laps down with Lux a further lap back. As the second segment began Weaver found his feet and began closing in on Webster. One minute into the segment Weaver closed in an took the top spot. He began to pull away, but then two mistakes allowed Webster back into the top spot. Weaver’s confidence in the car was now showing, however, and he caught Webster up once more. Four minutes into the segment Weaver took over the lead once again. This time it was for good. He pulled away once more and lead Webster by a lap at the half. While Weaver was pulling away, Udave had found his pace as well. He made up his two lap gap to Webster and now the battle was on for 2nd place. Weaver sealed the deal with a strong 3rd segment, stretching out a further four laps and setting the race’s fastest lap in the process. Webster and Udave continued to battle for 2nd during segment 3, but they remained in same position. In the final segment Udave took advantage of Webster finishing in the gutter lane and reeled him in. Four minutes into the segment, he took 2nd spot and never looked back. It was the 7th Majors win of Weaver’s career, but his first SS win since the 2005 Freezin’ 250.
The top three drivers all had fastest race laps 8.8 range with Weaver’s best at 8.853, Udave 8.865 and Webster 8.883.

CRB Raceway
Before going into an overview of the race BIG TIME KUDOS to Host & Promoter Russ Upton who monitored ALL EVENTS from the computer ALL DAY LONG!! He is making the effort to familiarize himself with the computer system setup and actual way the track operates.
Right up there as well was the menu of food supplied by his Lady. Everything was scrumptious!!
As with anything new you wonder! But, Russ Upton took any wonder about CRB Raceway out as he has a triple A facility! One word describes the track, FUN!
The morning hours saw racers coming in. Somewhere around mid morning or so the last entrant came through the door. A head count showed some 18 to 20 racers journeyed to the newest track on the HOCOC circuit, Russ Upton's CRB Raceway!! It's inaugeral event was put to the test by these racers, both the track and the procedure(s). As with anything there were a few kinks to iron out. I was told the track had gotten up and running just the night before and therefore no one had any time to make any test runs. Naturally the lanes were tested for their function but as far as setting up a car as per the track no one had any chnace. But, the playing field was equal for all on that. I can't recall all the names but here are a few who broke the track in by pounding out laps;
Matt 'Coupe Man' PatricK
Rick 'the Hammer' Hubbert
Al 'HOCOC' Perschilli
Trent Bradbury
Rick Morrissette
Paul Moreau
Rich Audet
Mark 'Killer' Kaminsky
Rudy 'the Rooster' Urban
John 'Nantasket Beach Speedway' Stezelecki
Rich 'Dr. Speed' Dumas
Jim Tyma
Manuel Pino
Pat D.
Paul D.
Bill
Tom
And my apologies to others that escape me at the moment.
This race couldn't have gone off without someone stepping up to coordinate checking cars in, prerace tech and post race tech. The experts for that were Matt Patrick and Rick Hubbert!! Your contribution is immeasurable!! Thank you both. And anyone else I overlooked.
The racing finishes and recaps will come in and I will be posting them. With the ASRL team event there was PLENTY of racing for everyone. Can't recall all who won but the team of John Stezelecki, Paul D., Bill and Rudy took the ASRL. Mark Kaminsky was smoking the field had the most total laps for that event.

East Coast Guys
If I heard correctly there will be a team fom the East Coast going out to take on the Fray In Ferndale in a few days. That team consists of;
Bruce Gordon, Anthony Zampelli, Mark Frazin and Bill Kurtz. Not sure if Bill will make this event due to some demands that have put him on call.
Whatever the case we wish them a safe trip and an enjoyable and hopefully a very successful showing at the 2010 Fray In Ferndale.

Posted 01/17/2010 – Upcoming Race Announcement
from SCCOTTT, The Freezin' 250
The Race: The 9th Annual Freezin' 250
When: Saturday, January 30, 2010. The track will be open at 9am for practice. Pre-race tech for the Big-Block support race begins at 11:15, driver's meeting at 11:45, qualifying to start thereafter.
Location: The Slot Car Club of the Twin Tiers, 2117C Grand Central Ave., Horseheads, NY
The Track: The Bowman Grand Champion. 83.5', 18 turns
The Cars: Aurora Thunderjets run to SCCOTTT Super Stock rules, (similar to Fray or VHORS.) Contact sccottt1@yahoo.com for complete rules.
Race History: Ryan Hendrickson dominated the 2009 Freezin' 250 with an 11 lap margin over Mark Webster. Dave Van Duzer and Larry Weaver completed the finalists. Gary Weber won the race in '08, Ryan Hendrickson won in '07 and '06, Larry Weaver in '05, Dave Hendrickson in '04, Rici Wood in '03 and Frank Spena Jr. won the inaugural Freezin' 250 in 2002.
The Freezin' 250 promises to be a very exciting race with what will most likely be a very tight field.
Warren Lux enters the Freezin' 250 as the pre-race favorite. Lux was on form with his best ever performance all the way through the Snowball 500 in December. He qualified third with 74 laps, but then fell just short of 76 in the semi-final round, but it was good enough for his first semi win at SCCOTTT ever. In the final he took a solid second place, again his best SCCOTTT finish. Could this be Lux' breakthrough event? Mark Webster won the Turkey 250 in November, qualified 2nd at the Snowball and harassed Lux all through the final. Lux may be the pre-race favorite, but Webster is right there. Scott Udave recovered from problems in qualifying to make the Snowball final, only to withdraw due to weather and his impending return to Buffalo. He looked very strong in the semis and any kind of falter from the first two could see Udave on top of the podium at race's end. Other contenders include Ernie Langford, Sean Swartout, Larry Weaver, Jeff Collins, Rob Haught and Hoss Phoenix. The battle among this group promises to be very tight and any of them could make that small step up to be running with Lux and Webster.
SCCOTTT's Friday Night 1/32 Racing Series runs every Friday evening with races beginning at 7:00 PM. Current classes are World Sportscar Championship, (WSC,) Trans-Am, Ninco WRC and 1/24. Call or e-mail for rules.

from Jim Nagy
Even if you have not RSVP'd for the Fling....... ....you are welcome. I made plenty of shirts.
Everything is in place, IROC G Jets are ready, IROC F1 Jets will be here tomorrow. Weather has calmed down. Cars are being loaded with slot boxes(some are leaving at 4:30 am tomorrow). The planets are aligning! Very excited! Doors open at 8:30 am for practice on both tracks.
Tomorrow night after the SS T Jet race, we will break for dinner. We will all go out to get some real Chicago pizza at Genos East. After the dinner break, we will warm up the Max & begin the 3 Hour Enduro around 7-7:30. More practice afterward for those who want a late nighter.
Saturday, doors open at 8:30(maybe up by 8:00) practice until 10:30 am then racing, eating, racing, eating...... ........
Near the end of Saturday, we will have the big race prize drawings(what a great selection) followed by the final races & awards ceremony.
Quick reminder, entry fee is $25.00 for the event. This helps offset the event shirt, box plaques, awards, snacks & beverages throughout the event & the big Buffet on Saturday for lunch.
A HUGE thank you again goes out to the 26 Sponsors that have stepped up for the event. This really means a lot. Each of you will receive far more in prizes than the entry fee. Please take time to support our Sponsors again this year.
Peace,
Jim Nagy & the Slot Pro Family

Happy New Year Fellow Slot Heads!
A new year brings us a new commitment to many areas of our lives, from family to financial goals and how we will enjoy our lives more with the free time we seem to scarcely get.
Many of us use the HO hobby as a part of enjoying that free time, we do this with good intentions and for some, to recapture a part of our youth we look back upon so fondly. We have, after all, assembled all of the parts needed, the cars, the controllers, the tracks, the hop-up parts, a pit box complete with stickers and other enthusiasts and friends who seek this same journey to a simpler time.
However, we lack one key part to complete this fuzzy memory and it is one that we will never, no matter how we try, ever be able to put back into the equation, the child that some 40 years ago looked at these cars for what they were, a toy. It was just another way to spend some free time, if we won a race it was cool but on any given Saturday of a child, it was just another way to spend some free time.
Alas, we are now adults and we are used to controlling everything around us, losing is almost always tied to circumstances that cost us, hurt us or make our lives a little harder. We are competitive to a fault by nature, racing other commuters to the next traffic light, trimming our yards beyond the neighbors and getting the better cell phone before your officemate.
We somehow need to find a way around this mindset to truly enjoy these little cars in as close a way that we once did and it's not going to be easy, it goes against our upbringing, our training and our latter life experiences. We need to make that commitment, not only on this first day of the year, to enjoy our free time more, but we must remind ourselves every time we gather at a race event. That child has long since became the man your friends and family depend on but it is that man’s free time, enjoying what he loves to do and forgetting what he must do that gives him the strength to fulfill his obligations the other 6 days in the week. I have promised myself to renew that commitment, to enjoy that feeling again, to remember that yes, winning is cool, but on any given Saturday of an old man, slot cars are a just a toy, just another way of spending my free time.
May 2010 bring you and your families all you can get out of it and may one of those things be some simple, much needed fun.

Four Days until the 10th Snowball 500...
To help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Snowball 500 we are putting
out a brief highlight of each year beginning with the first Snowball 500
in 2000. Today highlights 2005...
There was certainly a buzz in the air for the 2005 Snowball 500. Not
since the first race in 2000 had there been so much anticipation. Pocket
Rocket Raceway had gone out of business in the spring and the Slot Car
Club of the Twin Tiers, (SCCOTTT,) had taken it's place. LIttle did
everyone know that this would mark the last time the Snowball would be
held on the Bansai Buck.
Frank Spena Jr. was going for his 6th consecutive victory, but 2004
runner-up Dave Hendrickson and his son Ryan were set to make strong
challenges. The entries of inaugural Ford Aurora National Champion Henry
Harnish and Tom Bowman, the man credited with inventing magnetic traction
on a slot car, added further excitement. Once the racing began there was
no letdown. Just like in '04 there was a Hendrickson on top after
qualifying, but this time the upset was pulled off by Ryan. In the first
Semi he showed it was no fluke by breaking the 12-minute race record.
Spena was up in the second Semi, however, and he put up one of the
greatest drives of his career. When it was over he had broken the new
record by 2 laps. The final quickly boiled down to a battle between
Spena and Dave Hendrickson. The two remained on the same lap for much of
the early part of the race but then Spena slowly stretched out a lead.
While other Snowballs have had intense moments, '05 was certainly the
most intense Snowball from start to finish. In the end Spena grabbed his
6th straight Snowball with a 5 lap margin. Ryan Hendrickson and Jeff
"Hoss" phoenix filled out the top four.
The Race: The 10th Annual Snowball 500
When: Sunday December 27, 2009. The track will be open at 9am for
practice. Pre-race tech begins at 11:15, driver's meeting at 11:45,

Horseheads, NY
The Track: The Bowman Grand Champion. 83.5', 18 turns
The Cars: Aurora Thunderjets run to SCCOTTT Super Stock rules, (similar
to Fray or VHORS.) Contact Contact SCCOTTT for complete rules.
Race History: The Snowball 500 was the first "Major" held for T-Jets by
Pocket Rocket Raceway. The first race was only for modified Willys
coupes. In 2001 the race used Fray rules and has used similar rules ever
since. 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of the event.
Ryan Hendrickson dominated the race day in 2008, but nearly lost the
final after a wire fell off his motor during the late part of the race.
A charging Henry Harnish wound up 2nd followed by R.C. Lincoln and this
year's Turkey 250 champ Mark Webster. Dave Hendrickson won the Snowball
in '07. Paul Kniffen was the '06 champ. Frank Spena Jr. won the first
six Snowball 500s.
The Snowball has regularly drawn entries from all over the Northeast and
2009 is expected to be no different. Most years the winner of the Turkey
250 has gone on to win the Snowball as well. Will Webster be able to
keep that pattern against stiffer competition?

VHORS CLASSIC STOCK Results from Matt Patrick
HOCOC Turkey Derby VHORS CLASSIC STOCK Results
from Big Bend Speedway 11/21/09
Well Ladies & Gentlemen, I have gotten closer to a full recovery from the race and touring the world as it seemed for Thanks Giving Day. We had 20 racers entered in one of everybody's favorite divisions, the VHORS CLASSIC STOCKS. The always fast "Rapid" Rick Hubbert took first place with a run of 163 laps. Second place went to Anthony Zampelli with 159 laps, closely, as it has been in the last three races a half a lap down, in third was Matthew Patrick with 159. A close fourth was Manuel Pino with 156 laps and rounding out the top five was Rudy Urban with 155 laps. Positions six through eight was a nice on track battle as Rich Audette, Rick Morrissette & Paul Moreau were all within ¾ of lap of each other. Positions nine through twelve was also a very tightly driven race as only 3 laps separated those 4 drivers. A great race in all, very nice run for Mr. Hubbert as the last two CLASSIC STOCK races have seen Anthony Zampelli & Myself battle it out running 165 or 166 laps only to have the "Big Guy" beat me by less than a straight away. Both of us had some type of trouble, Anthony had more offs, but over oiling my top plate left my inside rear black after each heat and that was all she wrote!
Thank's to all that were in attendance and to the hospitality of our host for this event John Grace & Mary Darman!
Here is the final run down with driver's names and laps after offs.

HOCOC Turkey Derby Jalopy Results
from Big Bend Speedway 11/21/09
Well Ladies & Gentlemen, I have almost recovered from the race and touring the world it seemed for Thanks Giving Day. We had 20 racers in the newest of HOCOC's & Big Bend Speedway's Jalopy division race. From 1st to 5th, there was only a 4-lap difference and only a 10-lap difference from 1st to 7th; that how close these cars are. There was plenty of door-to-door & wheel banging racing no matter where you where in the field in the "Cut Downs" as we used to call them. Big Bend racer Rick Morrissette took the win with a total of 173 laps after offs, followed by another Big Bender Manuel Pino with 172, Rudy "I'll race anywhere" Urban took home the last podium position with 171 laps. Big, bad Johnny "Lightning" Grace took home 4th with 170 laps and rounding out the top 5 was Billy "Preacher" Grace with 169 laps. Sadly I learned my car was fast, but left a little behind in the handling and finished second to last, not bad for the guy who co-wrote the rules (LOL).
Thank's to all that were in attendance and to the hospitality of our host for this event John Grace & Mary Darman!

Thanksgiving
I can't expound on the accurate specifics of the origin of this day other than our Forefathers, the Pilgrims, cited this day as one of reverence for that which they had. Not that which they didn't have. In correlation I want to thank those racers and those associated with the cottage industry as well as track owner/operators who offer their facilities to the flock of racers who engage in the activities. Regardless of how you do in a race, sometimes leading the pack, sometimes in the pack, sometimes following/chasing the pack the big picture is that racing is there/here. On that may we give thanks. And of course on a personal basis may we all give our own private thanks for our personal bounty I.E. family, freinds and whatever you hold closest to you. With a great deal of travel this and the coming holidays HOCOC wishes everyone a safe and sound trip to and from your points of destination. We are selfish the right way and want everyone to be ready to race throughout and after the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving to all!! Gobble gobble!!

Change Immediate
Effective immediately, Russ Upton from Willington, CT.,
will replace Kevin Westgate as the HOCOC Racing Director.
Kevin has served in that capacity for a number of years but
due to his busy work schedule can no longer put the time
that is needed in the position. Kevin did a great job during
his time as the HOCOC Racing Director. In the future,
Kevin may hold another position. Russ brings decades of
slot car racing experience and wisdom. He will be a big
plus to the racers and the organization as a whole.HOCOC Racing Committee Posted 11/22/2009 – "Turkey Derby Race Results"
They're Coming
The Turkey Derby race results will be coming soon. There may also be race recaps.
An item that needs to be stated, the ASRL event was run by Matt Patrick with help. It was mainly Matt. We thank Matt for his skill in running it and patience with everyone. And it must be mentioned that John & Mary are the most generous hosts making Big Bend available for racing.
Thank you Matt, John and Mary.

From the desk of Rudy
Recently my hardrive failed. I then went on a search & rescue mission. I found an economical way that set me up with a Firefox browser with bells and whistles. But, it does not support frames which I had designed the website for. After thought I found fames is a passe website design. In addition, the links stored on the leftside all open into new windows. So, there really was no need for the framed page design. However, an index menu is needed so I tested several out and chose the hidden slideout menu that leaves a small amount showing on the leftside of the screen. Placing the mouse cursor on it automatically slides the menu out enabling you to click a link there. Moving the mouse cursor off will automatically close it. Clicked links will open in a new tabbed window and will leave the main page open. No content has been removed. Just the design. I hope it will be better and serve visitors well. Please send comments thumbs up or down on the website to; Email MeThanks, RU

from the desk of Matt Patrick And From the Camera Eye of Rich Dumas
Nostalgia 2009... WOW!, some great racing, with 5 different winners in 5 different classes, it was a fight in almost all classes that went door to door for alot of 1st, 2nd and 3rd spots... There could have been some really close races if not for the number of cutions that the "Banchi Slider" Banked Oval can produce, with the speed and sliding through the corners, it could have been almost anybodies race in almost all the divisions... Congrats to Al on his BIG Coupe win, if I could have saved that last off I might have gotten 3rd, if I knew you and Rick were gonna be that fast I'd a run my Grand American and gone home with two pieces of hardware... LOL Hindsight is a marvelous thing..... And another spectacular drive was that of Rich Hubbert in holding off Richie Audette for the win.
Congrats to a returning H.O. racer Auther Lapierre who scored the Grand American feature. Lets not forget the drive to the Vintage Tin cars by Rich "Dr. Speed" Dumas, nice job beating a seasoned vet like Mark Kaminski, the "Killer" K-Man had a good car, but had to settle for 2nd place. Thanks to Gerry Cullen's hospitality and of course the fine conditions of his track, very professional. Great turnout even though a few good racers chose not to take the time for practice on the slider for the NSC, all went well without any problems... http://homeracingworld.yuku.com/topic/16794

Race #2, The Barnstormer
Couldn't have been a better day to race with the weather putting a damper on much else except sitting in front of a TV. No matter, the Brickyard Racearena has become a landmark track in it's early beginnings. It is a real challenge!!
This event saw Matt Patrick, Rick Hubbert, Dave & Tony Howarth, Cameron, Mark Kaminsky and Rudy Urban hook up and take on the Brickyard challenge. Three classes were on the card. The 1st class was the Hobby Stocks. This is a great class where you can find motor but with the Hobby Stock rules you will HAVE TO DRIVE your way to victory or a decent finish. When the flag dropped it was non-stop wall to wall fender to fender racing. Mark Kaminsky had his '66 Goat(GTO) running fast and smooth across all lanes and while Matt and Rick couldn't keep it in the slot he posted high laps. But the real story was unfolding as Dave Howarth was taking his #48 to victory with a masterful display of driving against the odds. The #48 was fine tuned and taking no prisoners as he earned his way to victory lane. Very nice Dave!! Cameron, Tony and Rudy all had problems that plagued them taking them out of competition.
Side comment/note: Running in several heats together, Dave & Rudy, side by side provided some very competitive racing. But, having said this it must be noted that Rudy was DQ'ed for having illegal axles. These provided greater handling than other cars. Not knowing this at the time Daver Howarth could have thrown away the race to go after Rudy. In fact one of Dave's offs was a nerf from Rudy! His better judgement prevailing brought him home to finish and ultimately post his victory!! Kudos to Dave for his driving amd judgement. Anti-kudos to Rudy for his illegal car and illegal driving.
Dave Howarth, Mark Kaminsky, TJ Motola
Next class was the Coupes class. This was a dual between the #1 of Matt Patrick and the Fred Foshay #151 of Mark Kaminsky. Both were screamin' around the track but time would run out on the #1 and Victory Circle belonged to the 'K' Man and his #151. Matt and the #1 came home 2nd and a clean run from TJ Motola and his blue #3 earned him a hard driving 3rd spot.
Mark Kaminsky, Matt Patrick, TJ Motola
Final event for the Barnstormer was the lightning fast Fairgrounds. Rick Hubbert set the early pace in his late model '55 Chevy as he tore up the track. He would have handling problems and track out. Meanwhile the 'K' Man's black primer #83 was taking over the lead. He held it until Dave Howarth tracked him down in his green/white entry. This car sits low and flies! Rudy Urban then came on board with his blue/white #3 Camaro and showed the way to the winner's circle as he posted the most laps. TJ Mottola & Matt Patrick had issues and Cameron and Tony came home in the final positions with clean runs.
Rudy Urban, Mark Kaminsky, Dave Howarth
Track/Race Promoter Mark Kaminsky provided snacks, hot dogs and libation. Club President TJ Mottola handed out awards to top finishers and thanked everyone who participated. The award for Best Appearing Entry went to the red #1 Coupe of Matt Patrick's. Matt's machine is a beautiful clean appearing creation. The next event for the ECO will be the Hoosier HO Down at Big 'T's' Lil' Speedway.

Posted 10/12/2009 – "Road Rage HO Closing"
From the desk of Dennis Rutherford
Folks,
I have thought on and off about this for some time now and finally decided it's time to close up Road Rage Ho. I don't have a firm date yet but since folks are starting to ask and rumors will then tend to fly .... I figure I should come out and tell everyone I will be closing up soon. Some will ask for a reason and frankly the only one I have is that I just seem to have lost the desire and fire I once had. I have found myself slower to produce , respond , follow up and honestly do all that should be done to run a business and give the customer what they deserve. I thought that after taking a vacation I would feel energized and perhaps give it another go. But as I sit here now it's hard enough to even keep a pilot light lit let alone get the fire I once had. So I wish to take this time to say thanks to all my customers over the years and to all the friends I have made . I truely appreciate all you have done for me and the joy and passion for the hobby we shared.
Take care , Dennis
PS(mine), I never met Dennis in person but dealt with him via email. He earned a place at the top of my list of people I respect. When the sport has something happen where they lose a decent person's business affiliation there is a moment of reflection. I had no idea but not surprised that Dennis demands so much from himself for his customers. I certainly would never close the door to hearing that he is back. But, I respect his decision and wish him all the best!!!RU

SIZZLER TIDBITS
Some great racing took place. The distance between 1st
and 2nd place in all 3 of the events was only track
sections. Trent Bradbury had a strong showing all day
and what more can you say about his jalopy's, they
were great looking ! The Jalopy's were a hit. All
those who were present had choosen to run them instead of
the "missle cars", the APLM's. It will be cool to see
more of them on the track as the season goes on.
The SK's weren't run because everyone wanted to get going
on the road before a parade in town started and nobody
wanted to get caught in traffic. Gentlemen Jim Tyma
brought the goodies and as usual Richard had the track
in great shape. All in all it was a enjoyable day of racing.
Updated points to follow soon....

'Day Two'
ECHORR Challenge - 2009 - Day 2 - Saturday - Team Racing
The Hall was to open at 8 am, I got there @ 7:50 AM and the parking lot was full, racers chomping at the bit. The doors opened, everyone signed in and received participant plaques and trays. I ran around and quickly cleaned some of the tracks. We had a Driver's meeting at 8:30 and handed out the team cars to the captains @ 8:45 AM; fifteen minutes to get to first rack and warm the cars up. We started the program at 9 AM and everyone was going full tilt by 9:10 AM. We would run 7 races of the 13 and break for lunch. There were some hotdogs and drinks available at the Hall, but that did not last long. As the racing was going on, local collector Doug Keys set up his wares and had quite a bit of traffic to his table, T-shirts for the event were selling and Todd and Debbie of TKO fame set up to answer questions and get feedback from the racers. Todd is always looking for ways to improve his products and love to hear from the racers.
I did not race much during this event, so I got a chance to go around and watch some of the team racing, Wow! Everyone has certainly improved their equipment and driving. There were many close races during the day and the team records don't necessarily reflect the closeness of the completion. There was a lot of laughing and carrying on during the races which was great to see.
The results after the dust settled:
Team W L T
KC - Jet 13 0 0
ZoominMotorsports 12 1 0
Buckeye Thunder 11 2 0
NJ Longhorns 9 3 1
Tye Dye 9 4 0

Riff Raff Racing 4 7 2
Force Aurora 2 9 2
All Stars 1 10 2
East Coast Outlaws 1 12 0
BTE 0 12 1
It was now time for the Team Awards and for the 2nd Challenge in a row Team KC-Jet (Steve Ward, Clint Bourne, Don Royal, John Habernal and a couple of cameos by me) went undefeated. Congrats to team KC-Jet, they were pushed hard but still prevailed.
Based on our experience from the night before, Janet went to a local sports bar named Time Out and reserved a private room for the Challenge participants... Much better! We were inside and could actually hold a conversation without being drowned out by noise. We drank we ate, drank some more and shared tales of this event and past races.
Next report, next week will cover the Individual and IROC race as well as our generous sponsors.
I am off to KC till mid next week... Have a great Holiday Weekend.

'Day One'
ECHORR Challenge 2009 - Day 1 - Friday
Up at 5:30 AM, have to get to the hall by 7 AM to start breaking down tables and chairs and prep for 7 tracks and pit spaces. When I got there the tables were all setup and chairs stacked up on them, it was the Bingo night setup for @ 400 people. Tim Leppert strolled in a few minutes after me and started to break down chairs, a few minutes later Dave Lockwood came in and the three of us worked for @ 45 minutes before some more support came in. All told we worked close to 2 hours just breaking down tables and chairs. At @ 9 AM we started to bring in the tracks and stage them. Then we all had to stop when Big Anthony arrived, his "portable "track needs special attention and 12 guys to get it in and staged. We worked on Anthony's track then one by one we staged the other tracks. We set up the pit tables so each team could have at least 2 tables per, Janet, Cheryl (Paul Kniffen's better half) and Anthony's wife Rose made sure each table had a plastic cover on it, when you looked from the stage it resembled a checkered flag, alternating black and white table covers, awesome job ladies!. I had to run out to the Post Office to get some track parts and stop at Radio Shack to get some connectors, by 11 AM all the tracks were in and being connected and cleaned and making sure the glitches were out, yes we did run some cars on the tables, but this really cannot be considered any "extra" practice for anyone. Thanks to all that were part of the set up crew, you worked hard and made sure everything was ready when promised. By noon most of the participants had arrived and were marking their territory in the Hall. The tracks were open for practice and everyone started to rotate on the tracks to get their team cars ready. It was now time for me to do the administrative part of the event, hang master tally sheets, rotation sheets, etc. and make sure each table had the proper scoring sheets and the right color lane stickers (Thanks Henry for the Lane Stickers).
At 1 PM I held a Team Captain's meeting to hand out the rule set and discuss the schedule, etc. for the weekend. ZoominMotorsports and my roaming store were set up on vendor's row in the back of the hall. On Saturday local collector Doug Keys set up to add some "collector" flavor to the event.
Late afternoon came early and it was almost Tech time. I assembled the Tech crew and gave them instructions, the teams lined up to get their cars through tech. Thanks to all the Tech guys and to Paul Kniffen for working on bodies for racers, even if they were not ones he cast. I assembled the Captains to draw their team numbers, we had some open practice for the classic cars and did the Team intros all by 7:30 PM, not bad! All team cars were put in boxes and sealed impounded till Saturday AM.
A group of us went to a local place called The Green Turtle for some much needed adult beverages and food. It was rather crowded and we finally got seated outside and it was cold and rather damp, but the drinks were awesome!! Another Early rising on Saturday, the hall was to open at 8 AM.

Posted 10/06/2009 – "2009 ECHORRS Report"
From the desk of Rudy Urban
The annual ECHORRS event is one gathering of awesome skill & talent in this hobby. It is also a gathering of those fortunate enough to rub elbows with these leaders of our hobby. Hiram Durant presents a great weekend of competition. There are those of us who find a smattering of close racing due to our limited knowledge and equipment. But we witness to those who bring with them vast knowledge, superior equipment and skill. This provides the backdrop drawing from the finest competition you'll find in HO racing. While the East Coast Outlaws found themselves licking their wounds with a lone victory but 2 very close matches we witnessed the best go at each other and learned some fascinating concepts that enhance these simple looking little cars.
Hiram Durant may be posting his recap and report and I hestitate to upstage him as this was and is still his event. The ECHORR webpage is at; ECHORR(East Coast HO Road Racing)
If I can drop some names, Henry Harnish, Hiram Durant, Clint Bourne, Steve Ward, Dave Lockwood, Don Bourne, Don Royal, "Habby', Ryan Peoples, Tom Bowman, Jerry Schmoyer and so many others I just aren't recalling at this moment participated. The VHORS Classic race was run on Anthony Zampelli's Diamond Plate road course and across the board, from the 1st to last all enjoyed racing this course. Once drivers found the track's rhythm they settled in and pushed themselves and machines to the limit. When the smoke cleared the Final Four had staged themselves for the Big Dance, Big Showdown or you call it? Those who didn't make it weren't going to make it an easy path to the Final and the Final Four weren't there by chance as they carried strong reputation and earned their place in the deciding head to head competition.
But as our lives had taken a schedule change that made us thoroughly exhausted we looked forward to getting back home and trying out new ideas from what we saw and learned. I want to thank my teamates; Mark, 'Kman', Kaminsky for supplying sustanance, Jim, 'Ahyup', Hoar for his leadership skills and TJ Motola for supplying liabation and driving down and back!!!! One of last year's key team members, Matt, 'Coupe Man', Patrick was unable to join us. Special thanks should go out to Hiram Durant for organizing and to all those individuals who provided their tracks for this event. Setting up and taking down was the ugly side of putting this on. But the reward was there and I suspect the competition in this annual event will evolve to even greater levels as it attracts the best the hobby has to offer. Untill the next ECHORRS as Bill Kurtz would say;

October 3rd and 4 th
The home based, Rhode Island, East Coast Outlaws are fielding a team for the 2009 ECHORR Challenge. As I make this entry the team is getting itself together for the 4 to 5 hour trip to Finksburg Maryland. In fact, phone rings: "Hi Rudy, We're here over in Montville waiting for Rick to deliver the cars. Will be a short while and we'll be there to pick you up. TJ got his company's project done so he's coming with us instead of meeting us there. See ya soon...end.
The original team was Rick Hubbert(CT), TJ Mottola(RI), Jim Hoar(ME), Rudy Urban(CT) and Mark Kaminsky(CT). With great disappointment we are having to go without the presence of Rick Hubbert. Economics have him working Saturdays and as we know about what is important has to be employment. However, we have the benefit of his expertise in setting us up with the teams entries for cars. Another would have been there driver/eracer was Matt Patrick. Matt found himself attending a much more important Family activity. We will definitely miss Rick and Matt's driving and knowledge at the event but will dedicate our efforts for him in this event. In an email exchange with the Southern Man Bill Kurtz, team Tye Dye, he admits the field is the toughest he's seen. We will give it our best and in the spirit of the hobby we will have a fun event and take what we get as just being there is an accomplishment and rubbing elbows with notable names in the hobby and fellow racers we seldom see we will doubtless bring home positive memories. We will be there and I'll bring back the report. Having attended last year's event I can say Hiram Durant and his staff are striving to improve it and we are looking forward to another classic ECHORR Challenge. Gentlemen, hook up your controllers!!
ECHORR Challenge 2009 - Rough Schedule(The Friday Itinerary)
