East Coast Outlaws Race Reports

NOTES about ECO:
Eco is the East Coast Outlaws. This club is a group of racers active in the area of Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts. The club operates from decisions made by the active members. They also have a process in place to become a member. They run classes that other clubs run but use their set of rules for them. To become a member you need to contact a member and engage in the entry process. Many of these racers named on this page compete in other clubs as well. This club engages in major events such as the team events of G-Jet Enduro(Ethan Duda Fundraiser) and the annual ECHORRS weekend of Fray style team racing.

Dateline: April 05, 2012...(April 01st)
from the desk of Jim Hoar
Technically, yes, the race was titled the "Short Track Challenge" but, in reality, it should have been called the "Hospital Ward 500" due to the hurt'en status of Rudy, Jim and Dave H. Who else but me gets hurt by just standing? So here I sit, in a recliner, ankle/feet elevated with a compression bandage, ice and a cane for my racing injury. I'll send out invitations to my pity party next week. But, for now, let's get on with the report of the Short Track Challenge 2012.

The club is reaching our goal of twenty members in leaps and bounds this year. Both Bob Farnsworth and Pete Halgren have completed their three races with sponsors from within our group and a vote was taken to grant them membership. A unanimous show of hands by the 11 members present heralded their acceptance to our club. The only remaining prospect on our sheet is Trent Bradbury who is sponsored by Matt Patrick. Trent hopefully will someday be able to race again. We welcome Bob F and Pete H as new "HO Outlaws" and expect to see them at all of our future events. I showed a working draft of a points idea for the divisions/races we've done this year and a discussion @ how to award points entailed with the general idea being to do a points standings for races next year and to bring it up for full membership discussion at the banquet. Which, will be held on the 3rd of JUNE at Modelville/LenJet Raceway in Ashland,MA. The group decided that we will have the banquet behind closed doors for both privacy of our club and active racing being held at the tracks. New Business, or should I say, new club jackets, were "modeled" by TJ, Russ and Rick and a sign-up sheet was started for anyone wanting a similar one. Cost is 30 for the jacket and another 30 for the embroidering.
Treasury added in another 100 bucks so we're now at $1432, plenty for the banquet and expenses for next years events. GREAT JOB EVERYONE.

Who said Hobby Stocks couldn't run on a short road course? Certainly not ole Ricky "Bobby" Hubbard who brought his raggedty ole POS car into the first Victory Lane of the event. His 119 lap total was just enough ahead of Greg W's 116 for the win. So Greg W get's second place and then Russ"who's a Rat"Upton gets a third place with 113 laps, so we thought. The Rat Trap guys known as the tech inspectors found a piece of cheese or something in Russ's car that made it illegit. So taking third from him is Rick Morrisette with 113 laps also. 4th--Pat D w/108 laps, 5th--Jim H w/106 laps,6th--Bob F w/104 laps, 7th--Pete H w/100 laps, 8th--TJ Mottola w/99 laps, 9th--Paul M w/97 laps, 10th--Dave Howarth w/93 laps, 11th-Russ w/cheesy breath. LOL
A great ECHORR Indy car field hit the track after another great pizza feast by our Outlaws group and Pat Dube. Some of the best driving and sportsmanship was shown by racers with well set-up cars vs those whose weren't. Yea, there was the occasional nerfing by "accident" but it didn't stop Pat Dube from being the champion of this race. Getting his podium finish with 132 laps and 26 sections which was only 6 sections better than 2nd places Greg W's 132 and 20.
Third place a really legal car of Russ Upton with 131 laps. 4th--Rick H w/127 laps, 5th--Rick M w/124 laps, 6th--Bob"new but good" F w/121 laps, 7th--Pete"new and also good" w/119 laps, 8th-Paul"I'm always good"M w/118 laps, 9th--TJ"Bobby Orr Jr"M w/117 laps, 10th--Jim"call a Dr"H w/115 laps and Dave"I see too many Dr's"H w/112 laps. Rudy was present but his driving hand was still in a cast so using a controller wasn't possible. It didn't keep him from chipping in for our pizza feast and then enjoying a Boston Creme Pie Birthday"Cake" in his honor for birthday#64. He's gonna be racing at every race next year with his rebuilt hand.

A extra race was held to try out the Sportsman Class chassis with truck bodies as a bonus this month. Nice looking new trucks including Paul Moreau's Best Appearing blk/yellow Catepillar-Dodge truck pseudo Ward Burton/Jeff Burton paint scheme. Greg W's chopped LL Chevy gets the win after running 145 laps. 2nd was Rick M's truck w/142 laps. 3rd was Rick H's w/ 141 laps. 4th--Bob F w/135 laps. 5th--Jim"Gimp"Hoar w/135 laps. 6th--Russ U w/130 laps. 7th--Dave H with 106 laps. 8th--Paul"trucks pretty, not me"M w/103 laps. 9th--Pete H w/98 laps, 10th--Pat D w/91 laps and 11th--TJ"Out but not DQ'd"Mottola w/29 laps.

So after 4+ hours of racing, we decide to bring out the cream of the crop, the ECHORR SS class for a battle on Pat's 4X8 TKO course.
Getting his top finish of the day was Greg W with a nice total of 163 laps. Gracing us with his presence and taking a 2nd place plaque home for his efforts was Greg Burstein with 160 laps. The 3rd place honors goes to Russ with 159 laps. 4th--Rick M w/151 laps, 5th--TJ "I beat Hubbard" with 150 laps vs 6th place Rick H w/148 laps. 7th--Pat D w/147 laps. 8th--Pete"haha,I beat Jim"Halgren w/138 laps, 9th--Dave Howarth with 132 laps, 10th--Jim"I'm gonna need surgery"Hoar w/130 laps.11th was Bob F with 128 laps and 12th was Paul"where's my truck"Moreau with 30 laps.

Alright, we're just about wrapped up the 2011-2012 East Coast HO Outaws Racing season with the last race coming up on May 6th in Pawtucket R.I. at the museum. On the 22nd of this month is the 2nd Bob Beers show of the year down on Long Island,NY. A few members stated they're going both to buy and sell stuff so we'll see..... IF WE'RE NOT IN THE HOSPITAL, REHAB CENTERS, NURSING HOMES.......

See ya all on our Facebook page and Yahoo Outlaws Site.

Dateline: March 20, 2012...The 1st Annual Running Of 'The MOTTOLA MAN CAVE 250', (March 04th)
from the desk of Jim Hoar
Ya just GOTTA love a race place that has enough room to stuff 10 Harley-Davidson's, five dirt bikes, a big screen TV, full bar, a HO Slotcar race track, pool table and seating for enough folks to have a political caucus meeting at. That pretty much sums up the place, THE MOTTOLA MAN CAVE, in Harrisville,RI. What started out as a mini-forest behind their property has become one of the neatest places to race in Rhode Island. First shocking news of the day was that TKO RACEWAY'S is closing up and selling all their inventory. They're still going to build tracks per peoples orders, just no retail raceway soon. We discussed putting in a bid for the oblong tri-oval for $800 of our clubs $1332 in the Treasury at this time. We've been given permission to house it at the Pronyne Motorsports Museum in Pawtucket,RI. TJ, me and Russ will work the details to see what's doable. An extra race @ CRB was in the works for April 22nd but that now conflicts with the next Beers Show in L.I. New York. We welcomed Pete Halgren back for his 2nd race of trial Outlaws membership. Rick and Paul confirmed all is READY for the SlotFest @ F-B Raceway on May 27th. Freeekk'en awesome custom made resin dune buggy class too for this year. Russ reminded us all about APRIL 29th-FIRST SUMMER SERIES event at CRB Raceway. BANQUET TIME: We're looking @ Modelville on/about 2 June 2012. Not sure yet but we're working on it or somewhere else close to that. Will get feedback from all on what works for our group. NEW SHIRTS: Agreed on by membership that we will be needing/getting new (NONE WHITE) T-Shirts for our group this year. Will be looking for best deals possible and TJ,Jim and Mark will come up with plans/ideas. New Ones WILL BE SCREEN PRINTED!! WOW. AND PHIL HILGERT WAS VOTED ON BY MEMBERS PRESENT AND UNANIMOUSLY ACCEPTED TO OUR GANG.

No animals were hurt in todays racing but man, was there some serious dog fights happening on the STP Speedways inverted tri-oval design track. Chevy's vs Ford and Daytona's everywhere. Some pretty, some,,,errrr..nice and fuggly! Hubbard bested the class by his 170 lap run over 2nd place Greg W's close 167 laps. Third was Rick M's less distance 167 laps for best finish of his day. Hobby Stock heaven is where Russ Upton's 4th place car needs to go(maybe he can tryout his new FAIRGROUNDS body?) but he got a total of 159 laps. 5th place was Greg Burstein with 158 laps. 6th was Phil"I'm now an mean old OUTLAW" Hilgert with 154 laps. 7TH was Joe Eastlack with his Brownie Special car running a total of 153 laps. 8th was Pete Halgren with a little less 153 laps. 9th was Bill "nice car" Craven with 152 laps.

10th was Tom Mottola with 149 laps,11th was Jim H with 142 laps,12th was TJ with 141 laps, 13th--Mark K with 129 laps, 14--Evan Mottola with 128 laps, 15th--Paul Ryer with 127 laps,16th--Tony Mottola with 119 laps and 17th---Pat"Glad I make pretty cars" Dube with 109 laps.

The OUTLAWS Sportsmans, cars and trucks versions, tried to not DNF anyone but to no avail. Tom M and Phil H bit the short ones and came out on the tail end of this dog fight. Some really nice looking trucks showed up for their debut, some even stayed nice looking at the end. Check out the pics on our folders section soon of the Best Appearing Winner and others soon. Best Finish in Sportsman goes to Greg"I can race"Burstein with 209 laps. His 214 was more than the coupe winners lap total of 209 prior to off's. Another Greg, the Wiz version takes the 2nnd place spot with 205 laps and third place winner was Paul Ryer. Way to come back there Paul! 4th place--Pat "ha ha, I'm better now"Dube with 203 laps,5th place--Russ"it's not football season??"Upton with 202 laps. 6th--Rick M w/195. 7th--Mark K w/194. 8th--Jim H w/192. 9th--Tony M w/192. 10th--Joe E w/185. 11th-- Rick H w/184 laps. 12th--Bill C w/183. 13th--TJ w/180 laps, 14th--Pete H w/175 laps. Evan M with 170 laps.

Who would win the title of "Coupe King" at the Mottola Man Cave 250?
Turned out that the old Master himself, Mark "K-man" Kaminsky would take the title today over reigning champ Joe Eastlack. Mark's 205 laps versus Joe's 196 was a masterful show of driving talent on the STP Speedway. Phil Hilgert driving a Jim Hoar prepared back-up Coupe drives it into 3rd with 182 laps. Pete H showed us up with a nice 4th place run of 177 laps. 5th --TJ Mottola w/176laps. 6th--Paul R w/175 laps. 7th--Jim Hoar w/174. 8th-Greg W w/170. 9th--Tom M w/160 laps. 10th--Tony Mottola w/160 laps. 11th--Rick H w/153 laps. 12th--Evan M with 136 laps. 13th-Bill C w/115 (Out), 14th--Rick M w/110 (out) 15th--Pat D w/63 (out), 16th--Russ U w/41 (out). Rat ate his motor!!

Mucho big gracious to eveyone who contributed today, like the entire Mottola bunch, Dave Howarth, Joe E's Brownies (we need'em)!
Let's wrap up the season with the following:

April 1st------Outlaws Race @ P-R Raceway, Enfield,CT
April 22nd-----Beer's Show, Long Island,NY
April 29th-----Summer Series Race #1 at CRB Raceway-Willington,CT
May 6th ------ Outlaws Race at Pronyne Museum,Pawtucket,RI
May 27th-------SlotFest @ F/B Raceway, East.Hartford,CT

Take Care GANG......And keep our club strong.

Dateline: March 20, 2012...The 1st Annual Running Of 'The Rat Race 250', (Feb. 04th)
from the desk of Jim Hoar
February is supposed to have snow right? Not warm like 67 degrees and more sun than southern California! But things get kindof heated up when the East Coast HO Outlaws get together, especially at CRB Raceway in Willington,CT. Russ must have some pull with the Rat Gods above who laid a trap for us on his huge TKO roadcourse.

Agenda items included welcoming Bob Farnsworth back for his 2nd race to qualify to be an Outlaw. Idea was brought up to have an extra race or two during this spring to fill in some long lapses in racing. Most members felt a extra race or two could fit into their schedules so we'll see what works for the gang. I announced that I will be a GRAMPY for the first time in late Sept, so the Presidents spot will be open for new leadership. Rick M and Paul M confirmed their annual SlotFest will be on Memorial Day w/e, May 27th for all to attend. Everyone''s gonna be at it like usual, so plan on attending. Our Treasurer reports a balance of nearly 1200 bucks. WoW! Are we good or what!?!?!

Here Kitty, Kitty,Kitty....was the race command to start with the INDY class on the TKO mouse (car) trap. Not even Rick M's Best Appearing #17 TIDE Sportsman truck would escape the occasional carnage during the days warfare. There would be no "TRACK"-Off's to eliminate drivers earlier than usual so a full nearly quarter hour of racing would equal the field. Not being equal was how well Greg W's rocket led the event all the way to a Top Place finish with 94 laps and 22 sections. Quess who had 94 laps and 13 sections??..Rick "I smell cheese" Hubbard taking spot#2. Russ's 92 laps gets him a Third Place plate even though he wanted to throw some cheese out there to stop Rick H. 4th was Rick M's---89 laps. 5th place--Mark "kill the mouse" Kaminsky with 88 laps. 6th place--Paul M with 87 laps. 7th was Matt P with a shorter 87 laps. 8th place--Jim "Grampy" H with 86 laps. 9th place--TJ's "Rat Rod" with a shorter 86 laps. 10th place was Bob F with an even shorter 86 laps. 11th was Pat D with car/controller issues and same for Pete H with same situation.

So you think Sportsman's have troubles staying off the Oval track walls? Guess how they did on a road course? It became the Rat Race 103 because that's all that Pat Dube's ride needed to get the Winners plaque for race #2. Was a nice event parring off cars mostly racing each other with an occasional truck entering the carnage. Taking home his 2nd Second Place plate was Rick H with 101 laps, followed by previous first time winner, now Third place guy, Greg W with 99 laps. Getting 4th was Rick "My trucks prettier than yours" M with 96 laps. 5th place was Matt "Who gives a Rat's Ass" P with 92 laps. 6th was "old fart" Hoar with 91 laps. 7th was not quite an old fart, Bob F with 90 laps. 8th was "I don't fart" Kaminsky with 88 laps. 9th was TJ Mottola with 86 farts,...err..I mean laps. 10th was ??Russ?? with 84 laps. I think the farts killed the rat???

Ok, enough sick journalism here for one day. Think the sun has warped my brain. How'z about some good ole' ECHORR SS class racing?
Not even a fat rat, mouse or Russ Upton could catch Greg W's New Britain Missile who finished ahead of Pat D by 4 laps. Going by what's on the track sheets it was Greg W with 107, Pat D with 103, Rick H with 102, Russ U with 101, Gramps H with 100, Bob F with 98, Rick M with 97+37sect, Paul M with 97+14sect. Mark K with 97+6sect.(Way too cool racing). Matt P with 95 laps and TJ with 86 laps.

It's been a GREAT YEAR SO FAR, EVERYONE IS APPRECIATED AND HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE FOR ALL THE REST OF THIS YEARS EVENTS.

Jim Hoar,
President

Dateline: January 25, 2012...The 1st Annual Running Of 'The Mudd Hut 250', (Jan. 22nd)
from the desk of Jim Hoar
Hey Gang,

What would make a bunch of guys gather together for an event called the "Mudd Hut 250"? Solar flare phenomenon, realignment of the know universe, three wise men traveling from afar??? Better than all those things. Rick and Donna M. wanted the Outlaws to come back for a second time in 5 months and invade their home, well, at least their basement and bathroom for another fun race.

If we keep naming our races after flatulent body functions, we're gonna be known as the East Coast HO Outhouse Racers. Butt(lol), we had 8 guys show up for the first of our add-on races of 2012, a couple had to leave after a race or two due to family needs. Business consisted of a reminder for the next race being over at CRB Raceway on Feb 4th. Next item was the Best Appearing Award. Winning by one vote was the #31 blue/yellow Dodge Daytona built by Pat Dube and owned by Rick M. Another nice car from the paint shop of Pat Dube along with the 121 Ford Torino. Club Treasury amount was increased by $60 bucks for a new total close to $1080.

Race #1 was our own special class, the Hobby Stocks. The pretty cars escaped any major damage this time, until tech inspection. Russ's car was pretty too, pretty illegal by the cut wheel wells. Also, the #121 pretty car of Greg B went out of a top podium finish for the same reason. Keeping his winning steak going was Maine's version of AJ Foyt, Mr. Matt with a total of 266 laps. Second place was won by Rick Hubbert w/263 laps and third place honors went to Rick M w/252 laps. Paul M gets 4th with 223 laps. Jim Hoar gets the 5th place with 201 laps. Bill C gets 6th with 161 laps. Russ and Greg B still had a pretty cars but no plaques.
1) Matt Matrick 266
2) Rick Hubbert 263
3) Rick Morrissette 252
4) Paul Moreau 223
5) Jim Hoar 201
6) Bill Craven 161
7) Russ Upton DQ cut wheel wells
8) Greg Burstein DQ cut wheel wells
Race #2 had some more pretty cars, pretty fast ones that is. The Jalopys were ready for some dirt tracking around the D-oval. Greg B's hard fought track battles were good enough for a first place plaque with a total of 322 laps. Getting another solid run in was Rick M with 317 laps. Keeping his streak going was Russ U, whose third place total of 309 was good until the tech-gods found his magnets weren't the proper color combination per the rules. So taking third was Rick H with 295 laps. 4th place with 274 laps was Matt P. The 5th place honors belong to Jim H with 269 laps, 6th place goes to Bill C with 242 laps. 7th was Russ.
1) Greg Burstein 322
2) Rick Morrissette 317
3) Rick Hubbert 295
4) Matt Patrick 274
5) Jim Hoar 269
6) Bill Craven 242
7) Russ Upton DQ wrong color magnets
Race #3 was old and beautiful cars from our early youthful days, the Coupes. Jim "I'm just here for the Coupe race" Hoar tried like a real mainiac to beat the blue/white behemoth of Rick H but Hubbert lead the event almost from start to finish. Getting a cute Feature Winner plaque was Rick H with 321 laps. Jim's total of 305 laps got him the second place plaque and third place was Rick M with 210 laps. 4th place was Matt "Bondo Special" P with 194 laps. 5th place went to Russ Upton's legal car with 146 laps and 6th place was Bill "Buy it from me" Craven with a amazing 30 lap total.
1) Rick Hubbert 321
2) Jim Hoar 305
3) Rick Morrissette 210
4) Matt Patrick 194
5) Russ Upton 146
6) Bill Craven 30
An added special race of vintage resto NASCAR 1/32 cars were run at the conclusion of the HO event on Rick M's Riverside raceway. Fun, fast and flipping was the highlights of this race. The #11 66 Galaxie had more scratches on it's roof than it's doors at the end of the race.

Thanks alot to everyone who made the free time to get together and do their best to make sure the Mudd Hutt 250 lived up to it's name!! NEXT RACE: CRB RACEWAY 7 SPAK RD WILLINGTON, CT ON FEB 4th. NEXT EVENT: Jan 27-29th; Car building event at CRB with Russ and Hiram.

Dateline: January 22, 2012...The 9th Annual Running Of 'Saturday Night Thunder', (Jan. 07th)
Location: Harrisville, Rhode Island
Race Recap from the desk of Jim Hoar
Waazzzupp Gang,

So you think that after NINE times of having an annual event, it would be perfect, right? RIGHT? Well, TJ GOT IT RIGHT!!!

A lucky 13 Outlaws racers showed up for the gold standard of Outlaws races there in Harrisville,RI. Weather was perfect, the chocolate cake was calling from the kitchen and the we broke in a new club prospect. All the ingredients for another spectacular annual Saturday Night Thunder!! TJ reported that our club treasury has a record total over just over a grand in it. And that's without investing any in the stock market!! Good go'in there T., keep it up! We also welcomed a new, but very experienced newbie, to his first Outlaws event. Phil Hilgert of Smithville,RI is a Colorado transplant from the Mile High Slot Car Club and a great dad. He's chosen to take the high road in parenting by being an active dad for his son, without the help of a in-home mom.

The first class to mess with everyone's mind was another Outlaws newbie, Jalopys. Throw on your ECHORR Indy-ruled chassis to the most hacked up, no height rule bodies that resemble Coupe class rejects and go beat on each other. Speaking of rejects, that what's happened to poor old Rudy and Paul R during tech inspection after their 2 and 3rd place finishes. Nothing major, just the common magnet issues.
Really fun class and some great detail work on some of the bodies.
Hope your sitting down for the results. Matt"oh yea, I'm the winner" Patrick gets a podium spot for his efforts and driving down from Maine. Second place was good ole'Mark Kaminsky with 244 laps. Third place was Phil"oops, did I just beat you" Hilgert with 229 laps. 4th was Bill C w/228 laps, 5th place--Jim H w/227 laps, 6th place--Rick M with 226 laps, 7th place--TJ Mottola w/219 laps, 8th place--Rick "Jim quit nerfing me" Hubbert w/218 laps, 9th place--Pat Dube w/176 laps, 10th place--Paul Moreau--w/107 laps,11th-Russ Upton with 46 laps. 12th-Paul R-**DQ magnet, 13th--Rudy-** DQ magnet.

The Best Appearance Award had a tie this year with a beautiful yellow dirt late model of Rick M and Rick H's beautiful blue/white Jalopy coach. Errr, Hubbs, news flash, Jalopys aren't SUPPOSED to be "nice". And talk about NICE, what a freaak'in great food-bash that Karen and TJ had set-up for the gang. A Mottola tradition-THE TORPEDO's, filled the bellys of us all and then came the chocolate cake, which I would have stolen if Karen hadn't hid it on me.

Dirt Late Model Stockers w/ECHORR SS engines stuffed in them where waiting in the pits for race #2. Gotta love how great these things look and go on a small track, now if only could throw a truck load of Georgia red clay on his track, it would be totally realistic.
Even with all the bump-n-bang'n when it was over, Rick Hubbert had a total of 315 laps to take his big win of the night. Second place was a legitimate Paul Ryer's car with 296 laps. Third place was the CT Rooster, Urban man finished with 281 laps. 4th place--Mark K w/277 laps, 5th place--Jim "who can I nerf next" Hoar with 272 laps, 6th place--TJ M w/262 laps, 7th place--Bill Craven w/252 laps, 8th place--Rick M w/208 laps, 9th place--Phil H w/192 laps, 10th --Russ Upton with 183 laps, 11th--Pat Dube w/175 laps, 12th place--Paul M with 128 laps and 13th was Matt "dang that blows" Patrick--81 laps.

Outlaws Cups were next. No, that doesn't refer to a bikers chicks bra, we all know they don't wear any! LOL. OK, no more jokes.
These fifty dollar wall-bashers sure know how to make a grown man cry when the parts and pieces go flying in the air then onto the floor. If the bodies on these things were metal and not lexan, they'd look like Clint Boyers Jack Daniels car after the last lap of the 09 Daytona 500. Showing up the field and that you can get better with age was Matt Patrick who paced the field and then won it all with 438 laps. It was old guys nite for this race as Rudy Urban took 2nd place with 400 laps. Third place was the youngster of the podium, TJ takes home a plaque for his 399 laps. 4th place--Phil H w/a close 398 laps. 5th place--Paul Ryer w/351 laps, 6th place--Bill C w/348 laps, 7th place--Rick H w/330 laps, 8th place--Mark Kaminsky w/301 laps, 9th place--Jim H with 264 laps, 10th was Rick M with 214 laps, 11th place--Russ Upton w/178 laps and 12th was Pat Dube with 97 laps.

Luckily, the 2012 running of Saturday Night Thunder was alot better for driving home from this year, so guess we'll ALL be back for the TENTH ANNUAL SATURDAY NIGHT THUNDER next year. But first we'll see you all on Sunday, 22nd of January over at Rick M's house for thee MUDD HUT 250. Classes are the Jalopy's again, Coupes and Hobby Stocks.

Dateline: January 07, 2012...The 9th Annual Running Of 'Saturday Night Thunder'
Location: Harrisville, Rhode Island
Track: Big T's Lil' Speedway, AKA The Bull Ring!
Just a few pre-race recap posting comments. Last night saw the 9th Annual Saturday Night Thunder event. The race card had Jalopy bodies on Indy car chassis, Dirt Late Model Super Stocks and the Outlaws Cup G-Jets. There were 13 racers showing from Maine, MA., RI. and CT.
1st class saw the Jalopies. This field boasted some sharp looking machines. In fact one shared the title of Best Appearing. Racers rotated in and out for awhile and after the final lap and post tech Matt Patrick's black#7 showed the way by a 9 lap margin over 2nd place Paul Ryer. 3rd Place went to a new member prospect Phil Hilgert.

The next class saw the faster Dirt Late Model Super Stocks. This class also had sharp looking rides. And the yellow #30 shared the Best Appearing with the Jalopy Coach #903. At the end of the final heat and post tech it was Rick Hubbert with about a 30 lap margin on 2nd place Rudy Urban and 3rd place went to Mark Kaminsky.

The final class was the Outlaws Cup G-Jet Nascar lexan body cars. These also were great looking as lexan bodies go. Once again when the checkered flag dropped on the last heat it was Matt Patrick tying the class track record. Rudy Urban would come home 2nd some 35 laps back. And 1 lap back in 3rd was TJ Mottola last years SNL Outlaws Cup winner. And curious that Matt Patrick was 2nd last year with Rudy in 3rd last year. This race saw a high level of attrition from 'offs' and tracking out of the race. As fast as these cars are survival from 'offs' and tracking out is a priority rather than cutting the fastest laps. On the other hand Matt Patrick did tie the track record so he was cutting fast laps. And yet he too needed to be conscious and aware of 'offs' which he did.

Dateline: December 11, 2011...The Skidmark 500
Holiday Greetings to Everyone,

I think the Burger King is trying to kill me. Buy one Whopper and get one free!! Damn, what's next? McDonalds deal for two Sausage Egg and Cheese Muffins for $3. What....they are!? It is?! Uggghhh, I'd better just stay here and get out the race report from last w/e's great race held at the F-B Raceway of Rick AND Donna !!!

First, I just gotta say that Rick and Donna are two of the nicest hosts you'd ever want to meet. Who else would cater an event and load it up with salsa and tortilla chips to a bunch of guys who are known to have gastric issues? The event was top notch all the way. After getting our fill of gas producing treats, the 9 racers headed to the track with their ECHORR Indy cars to see who would survive.

Race #1
We all tried to scratch and bend up Rick M's #3 Commercial Tire Special Roadster that won the Best Appearance Award but he saw through our little scheme and managed to keep it in one piece. Matt's Pre-Tech went off mostly without a hitch for everyone and the battles began. In what can only be described as a serious ass-kicking to most of us, Russ claimed the days first top finishing spot with a 318 lap total. That Zoom'n Blue Indy was fast and handled well with Russ on the trigger. Greg W's lap total of 309 was good for second place and 3rd went to Rick M's pretty #3 car with 297 laps. The field only had a few wheel on wheel accidents to keep the event fun and competitive. 4th was Matt w/290 laps, 5th was Jim w/286 laps, 6th was Mark K w/274 laps, 7th was Greg B w/256 laps, TJ's beast managed to get 8th with 227 laps and 9th was Paul "this car blows worse than me" Moreau with 113 laps.

Race #2
After a great lunch with a "totally interesting and twisted" conversation up in Rick's kitchen, the battle worn Fairgrounds were running and ready. Now, somehow these things must have thought they were real because just like their full size cousins, TJ's primer gray 44 Chevy ended up sideways in front of Jim's Cougar and was lifted onto the Cougars hood and windshield for a sideways ride down the arching backstretch of F-B Raceway. What probably caused the whole wreck was Greg W's drivers side rear tire that kept creeping outward from it's rim giving it a three lane advantage. It finally did come off, sadly right in front of Greg B's car send both cars into a control arm bending crash. Taking the win was Greg "where'd that tire come from" B with 414 laps, followed by our host himself, Rick M with 376 laps. 3rd place was Jim "I don't smell anything" H with 369 laps. 4th was Paul "I know I smell something" M with 318 laps. 5th place was TJ with a cool 250 laps. 6th was Greg "my nuts must have worn off" W with 224 laps. 7th was Mark K with 173 laps despite some controller issues. 8th was Russ with a uncommon for him total of 171 laps and 9th was Matt "crashing isn't nice" P w/ 167 laps.

Race #3 of the day was our own version of "have at it boys" class, the Outlaws G-Jet Cup cars. So where else but the Outlaws can a bunch of guys go out and crash a bunch of $50 cars for the fun of it and still be best friends? Huhh?? Where else can Ronnie Bouchards white/yellow #47 car from the 80's blow by the Kasey Kahne #9 Dodge of a few years past but at an Outlaws race!!!
There was some serious wipeouts, crashes, launches , whatever...you name it during this event. No one knew if they or their car was gonna finish this race. But luckily, after the air had cleared (a F-B Raceway first), showing us again how talented he can be on a slotcar controller despite only being a little older than some of our own kids, Greg "I just need some HgH" Bernstein got his second top spot of the day with a total of 456 laps. Russ completed 453 for a second place spot which would have been OK except his arm in the motor turned out to be a hot stock one and he got parked by the Tech guys back in the field. So second place went to the man himself, Rick M with a total of 441 laps followed by Mark "I knew I'd beat someone" Kaminsky with 435 laps to take a 3rd place plaque. 4th was owned by Ron Bouch...err, I mean TJ Mottola with 420 laps. The 5th spot went to Matt "I just want to go to Henry's" Patrick with 369 laps. 6th was Jim with 365 laps, 7th was Paul Moreau with 309 laps, 8th was Greg "what the hell is a G-Jet" W with 221 laps and 9th went to Russ U.

Of special attention to all club members is some news for 2012. Russ and a couple other guys along with Peter Lentro's of Modelville Hobby in Ashland, MA are organizing a big race event for mid March or so with the Outlaws being the major hosts for the event. We discussed mostly if this would cost us any significant amount of cash from our $872 in the club treasury to purchase items such as food, prizes etc. Entry fees will recover some of the costs and we'll have to see what type of definite attendance we'll be looking at from racers around the east coast but it does seem very do-able at this time. Classes for the event will be the ECHORR stables of INDY and SS classes. Probably a IROC race of some sort also for kicks or a Nostalgia class. We'll have to really start getting going on posting the details of the race as The Fray in Ferndale is also about that same time so attendance might be effected if some east coasters are going to that. YES, THE FRAY IN FERNDALE IS COMING UP SOON. RICK PHYLLIS was awesome and thoughtful enough to want to come east and join the Outlaws at the ECHORR Challenge. IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF ONE, TWO OR MORE OF US could swing a trip out to his event to show our appreciation. We wouldn't have to be a Outlaws sponsored team but there's a good chance there will be at least 5-6 guys from the east coast heading out there to make up a team. CALL ME after you've raided your retirement acct, life insurance policy and wife's casino money to cover air fare etc and let's have a blast out in CALIFORNIA IN MARCH.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL MY OUTLAWS FRIENDS,
Jim "Ebeneezer" Hoar

Dateline: November 29, 2011
From the desk of Jim, from my desk', Hoar:
Alright Gang,

Geezz'um Christmas, what a kick in the pants it's been for the past couple of weeks getting a new car for my beloved, but it's done!
Back to doing my kindof fun.

So, contrast the two dates of racing. First, Oct 29th, 2011, Major Nor'Easter Blizzard that blankets the entire New England region, killing 21 and leaving 3 million people with no power. But....we snuck in a race at Mark and Debbie Kaminsky's just in the nick of time.
Forward now to Nov 13th, CRB Raceway owner, Russ "I won't give you guys hickeys" Upton, picks up an open race date event on a day completely the opposite weather-wise. Sunny and warm enough to bring out not just the real hardy racers but everyone who knew where to go to have a great race with a competitive great bunch of HO racers. Even Mother Nature wouldn't mess with a bunch of slotcar racers doing battle at "The Storm Buster 500".

Much thanks first to the Fifteen, ayyhupp--15!, racers who came to East Coast HO Outlaws race #4 of our season. That's nearly as many who showed up for the Ohio Challenge in July. With that many great racers, we knew it was going to be a really fun race, and it was. First some club business:

1. Voting for club acceptance of prospect Greg Wisniewski, he's attended the three required Outlaws events as well as doing extra duties for a competitors team at the ECHORR Challenge. Greg was sponsored by Jim Hoar. A majority of club members were present and Greg was unanimously voted into full membership to the club. Club t-shirt given.
2. Voting for club acceptance of prospect Sam Ryer who also has attended more than the three required Outlaws events and kicked our butts at his home track in September at the "Spin Out" race. A majority of club members, including Paul (Dad)..were present and Sam Ryer is now an Outlaw!! Club T-shirt given.

3. TJ Mottola, our club treasurer reports that after some double checking and counting, we're not broke. I thought I wrote down the exact amount but I think we're in the mid 800$$ range. That will cover our bar tab at next years Challenge!!!

RACING !!! Oh hell yea, we did some racing. And we're just not taking "track call" racing, we're talking "some kick ass marshalling" racing. Plus we even had time to do the Best Appearing Car award too, which was won by Pat "King Richard" Dube's Petty look-a-like #43 ECHORR SS Zoomin Motorsports 2010 Dodge Challenger body. Plaque given.

Race #1 was the nerf'em if you can, open-wheeled INDY class. Some really nice sportsmanship driving by all 15 racers kept major crashes to a minimum and the outstanding marshaling kept everybody in the grove. Taking the first podium win of the day with a total of 92 laps was RICK Hubbert, Connecticut's answer to Juan Montoya. 2nd place with 91 was Greg Wisniewski, not bad for a rookie,LOL!
3rd was Greg "I'm really mean" Bernstein with 90 laps. 4th-Pat D w/88, 5th--Rick M w/87.7 laps, 6th--Matt P w/87.5 laps, 7th--Bill Craven with 86. 8th--Sam R w/85 laps, 9th--Mark K w/83 laps-26 sect, 10th--Joe E w/83 laps-14 sect, 11th--Paul R w/83 laps, 12th--Paul M w/81 laps, 13th--Jim H w/80 laps, 14th--Dave H w/80 laps and 15th--TJ Mottola w/a blowed up car @ 74 laps.

Race #2 saw our Outlaws Sportmans Class crunchers hitting each other repeatedly, some times even onto the floor. Going by the scoring sheets, the WINNER was Greg "told ya I was mean" Berstein with 103 laps, 2nd was Rick Hubbert with a real close 102 and 3rd place taken by Pat "Pretty cars can win" Dube with 99 laps. 4th--Russ U/98 laps, 5th--Mark K w/98 laps, 6th--Rick M w/96. 7th-Jim H w/93 laps. 8th-Sam R w/92 laps. 9th--Matt P w/92 laps, 10th--Joe E w/92 laps. 11th--Bill C w/91 laps, 12th--Paul M w/89 laps. 13th--Greg W with 86 laps, 14th--TJ M. w/84 laps and 15th--Dave "I'm really, really good" Howarth with 71 laps.

Race #3 saw some of the best action of the day when all the ECHORR SS cars came out from everyone's racing stable. Lambo's, Chevy's a Dodge or two plus a sh-----load of other kindof foreign made stuff hit the track, the retaining walls and yes, the floor....too. Once again, some great sportsman like driving manners combined with awesome track marshalls kept this free for all class to a respectable end of the day. Taking his second top podium finish was Greg, "Yes, I do race hard", Berstein with a 109 lap total. Trying his best to get his win of the day was Russ"Berstein you suck" Upton with 104 laps and 3rd place was won by a few mere track sections by Ricky Hubbert w/104 laps.
4th--Paul R w/104 laps, 5th--Sam R w/103 laps, 6th--Greg W'ski w/103 laps, 7th--Matt P w/102 laps, 8th--Pat Dube w/102 laps, 9th--Jim H w/101 laps, 10th--TJ "Yes, I'm on a roll now" Mottola w/100 laps, 11th--Rick M w/99 laps, 12th--Paul M with 99 laps, 13th was Bill Craven with 96 laps, 14th--Joe E w/93 laps, 15th--Mark"I'd rather have snow again" Kaminsky w/90 laps and 16th but never last was Dave "Napping is sometimes more fun" Howarth with 18 laps.

WE VOTED ON AND APPROVED AT THE EVENT A CHANGE OF DATES FOR OUR NEXT EVENT. IT WILL BE ON SAT--DEC 3rd,,, AT RICK MORRISETTE's HOME IN EAST HARTFORD, CT STARTING @ 9am. It's Russ UPton's former D-Shaped "DOVAL" TKO track.
ON DEC 4th IN RANDOLPH,NJ ANOTHER GREAT RACE @ HENRY HARNISH'S WILL BE GOING ON FOR ALL EAST COASTERS WANTING TO SHARE SOME HO-HO-HO HOLIDAY FUN WITH ONE ANOTHER. FEEL FREE TO POST ON OUR SITE IF YOU'RE GOING SO WE CAN SEE WHAT WE CAN DO TO SHARE DRIVING CHORES, HOTEL ROOMS ETC FOR OUR CLUB MEMBERS.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving the other day with friends, family and slotcars. I'm thankful for being the old fart you guys wanted to watch over the club this past year and for my families love and safety. Plus for Matt Patrick making my 10 hour drive home thru the Nor'Easter seem like just another Maine-iac's typical drive to a race and back. SEE YOU ALL NEXT WEEKEND FOR 2 FULL DAYS OR CHAOS, MAYHEM AND FUN!!

From the desk of Jim, What's a little snow gonna do?', Hoar.
Our day went like this................

Voting for the Best Appearing car award was a close one but coming out the winner was Rick H's classic oldey Mustang Coupe.
Race#1--Waiting their turn for the days first race was the rusty, cluncky old Hobby Stocks. Pretty they might not be but quick they are, well at least the top 3 were. A very close battle for the win by a mere half a lap between Matt"old Ford guy" Patrick and Rick "better car" Hubbert was Ricks first win of the day with 191 laps to Matts 190 total. Mark 'whew I passed tech' Kaminskys Chevelle pulled in with 182 laps. 4th--Paul R w/172 laps, 5th--Joe E. w/171 laps, 6th--TJ M. w/169 laps, 7th--Jim H w/161 laps and 8th--Dave H. w/58 laps.

The delicious feast of pizza's, salad, Joe's brownies and lots of A-W Cream soda made for a afternoon worthy of a long nap but by noon, it was already snowing hard and gett'n worse in Wilton,CT.

Race#2--The Wilton RaceArena, aka Brickyard RaceArena, aka Mark and Debbie's home track, wasted no time in getting the next class up and ready...The FAIRGROUNDS were warming up on the tech boards. Rick H's beat to crap old 72 camaro still showed it's got one last race in it by beating the also-ageless RRR Cougar of Jim H's for another first place plaque. Rick was 1st with 303 laps and Jim was 2nd with 300 laps. Marks RRR 69 Camaro was third w/ 289 laps. 4th--Matt w/260 laps, 5th--Joe w/258 laps, 6th--Paul R w/143 laps and 7th was Dave "I'll go anywhere for a race too" Howarth with 59 laps.

Race #3--As the snow started to pile up and the trees outside split and hit the ground, it was kindof a good thing the speedy Ole' Coupes were rolling and ready to line up last. Joe made it look so easy to best the field with his always good orange Coupe. It's like the second win he's had with that car recently, so watch out at next months race in RI!! He led the pack with 246 laps, 35 laps ahead of Jim's "T-JET BASED" sick-cat Green Coupe. Track-Off's were the story for this race with pretty much everyone else paying more attention to falling snow then falling lap records.3rd was Mark w/187 laps, 4th--Rick H w/155 laps, 5th--Matt w/126 laps, 6th--Paul R w/125 laps, 7th was "dashing thru the snow"Dave H with 111 laps.

Dateline: September 20, 2011
