Dateline: May 5th & 6th. Speed Weekend and the NSC Results.
From the desk of Dave Simms... Gentlemen,
WOW, what a great weekend of racing & hangin' with the guys. We saw racers from the two Pa. regions battle for some of the best looking trophies HOCOC has givin' out. The doors opened @ 8:00am Saturday morning for some intense practice of the Grand Nationals, while the Tub saw tunin' for the NSC. We took a break for lunch with hoagies and all the fixins. Then it was back to the Maxx for a final practice session before we called for cars to be turned in. After a quick pre-tech it was time to do battle & once the silicone dust settled it was:
Grand Nationals on the Maxx:Anthony Zampelli 117 laps 1st Scott Dunlap 113 laps 2nd David Simms 111 laps 3rd JP Ricci 104 laps 4th Pat Grimm 103 laps 5th Joe Loh 100 laps 6th Tim Duggins 92 laps 7th Ron DiCicco 89 laps 8th Christian Simms 84 laps 9thWe ran this race with cautions, so totals are net of track calls. Anthony Zampelli ran a perfect race with no offs. All cars passed the post race tech. Trophies were given to the top three racers. We broke for the day & met up a short time later at Issac Newtons for dinner, drinks & a lot of laughs.
Sunday morning came quick and racers started filing in at 7:45am & just kept comin' in. Practice lasted til 10:30am when cars were called in for tech & everyone to pull chips for the runnin' order for the day. There was a lot of races inside the big race with no one goin' down without a fight, so once the buzzer rang for the last time it was:
NSC on Tub:Anthony Zampelli 250 laps 1st Derek Scheaffer 250 laps 2nd David Simms 241 laps 3rd Jeff Crosley 238 laps 4th Joe Loh 236 laps 5th Pat Grimm 235 laps 6th JP Ricci 234 laps 7th Chad Phillips 234 laps 8th Ron DiCicco 229 laps 9th Scott Dunlap 229 laps 10th Tim Duggins 220 laps 11th Travis Gladitsch 220 laps 12th Hank Galloway 215 laps 13thAll cars were torn down for a post race tech & with all passing, so it was Anthony Zampelli with back-to-back NSC championships to add to his impressive racing career. Congratulations to the CHAMP. It was time for lunch which Adrianna's did an awesome job on, thanks.
Once all were full it was back downstairs for the final event of the weekend after a short practice session. Cars were called for tech and it was off to the races. A lot of close racing but once the checkered flag waved it was:
Jalopies on the Maxx:Derek Scheaffer 117 laps 1st Jeff Crosley 115 laps 2nd Anthony Zampelli 114 laps 3rd Chad Phillips 110 laps 4th David Simms 106 laps 5th Scott Dunlap 106 laps 6th Joe Loh 103 laps 7th Pat Grimm 103 laps 8th Ron DiCicco 97 laps 9th JP Ricci 97 laps 10th Tim Duggins 93 laps 11th Hank Galloway 91 laps 12th Travis Gladitsch 47 laps 13thAll cars were subject to post race tech with all passing. Trophies were givin out for the day & lots of pictures being taken of the event which will be forwarded to the group. It really was a great weekend overall with all having an awesome time. Thanks to Al, Rich & Trent for all they do for the club & next season will be along in no time. Thanks to all the racers for participating in this event.David

Dateline: February 25, 2012 Update of 'Mid-Atlantic, Race#8, Riccianapolis Speedway', Yardville, NJ.
Updated Points Note: In assessing Anthony Zampelli's best 6 of 8 races it was found that the points attributed to the NSC were taken from the Grand National finish and not the LMS finish at Loh's Motor Speedway. The field was the same. 1st and last were the same. The 5 other racers were adjusted accordingly to the actual points from the LMS finishing order. Some lost points while others gained. I apologize for this as I have been aware that I can make this kind of mistake. I am finding them when I do drops. It is my intent to cheat no one and keep the points accurate. To the best of my knowledge this is an isolated incident and hopefully it will remain just that.

Dateline: February 05, 2012 'Big Dog Shootout' Recap & Results
Small field of 6 racers made their way to the Juniper Raceway facility to do battle on Gerry Cullan's Slider Oval. There were 2 newbies, Keith and Ethan who were cutting their T-Jet teeth. As we all are familiar tracking out races take thier toll on the rookies and this was no exception. Both races showed patience which is an absolute must. Both showed promise and in time they will break through.
Meanwhile the veterans did battle and although The Earnhardt #3 of Al Perschilli bested the field handily in both NSC races the 2,3 and 4 spots were finding themselves running side by side lap after lap and those positions were closely contested all day long. Gerry Cullan probably had the best NSC car. But a pinion gear loosened up and took him out of contention. Repairs brought him back out and he showed the quickest way around the track posting fast laps. Meanwhile however, Al Perschilli was taking the field to school. Rudy and Rich were doing well and keeping as close as they could. Rich bested Rudy for 2nd place by 6 inches. In the 2nd NSC Rich ran into offs that caused him to track out early and Rudy came home 2nd. Gerry Cullan and his rocket found himself in the 3rd spot, Dr. Speed in 4th, Keith 5th and Ethan hanging in there for 6th
Rudy saw victory lane in the Jalopy event. Rich Dumas had the race but red lane caused him problems and he had a low lap total for red. He did come home in 2nd only a lap back of Rudy. Likely a better heat on red and his Jalopy woud have seen victory circle.
One note: Keith Perschilli was leading and may have even won one of his NSC heats. He had the Kyle Petty Hot Wheels getting around very fast. Nice going KP.

Great day of racing at Berlin. Youngster Mike Wang did an outstanding job. It's great to see the younger generation get involved. The future looks bright for HOCOC with Mike and Greg Burstein another younger driver. Greg will be a force to be dealt with in the future under the guidance of Russ Upton. Pop's Nelson did a great job. He's one of the younger one's at 70 years young ! There was a lot of close racing. The quality of the cars has never been this high. All the cars were fast and just raises the bar. This is one tough series. Jeff Crosley edged out Tom Gumina by about 1/16 of an inch in the Indy race to grab 3rd. Anthony was helping everyone as usual. Bruce and Yucha did their steady performance like always. The NSC is gonna be tough. The NJ/Philly guys and the TKO Pa. Posse are up on their game as well. The rest of us better step up our program if we intend to be in the NSC field. The chase is on ! A collection was made for the Ethan Duda Scholarship Fund and wil be presented at the G-Jet Enduro next spring.
Don't forget the history making "Mini Indy" is fast approaching.
