Mid-Atlantic Region Results, Recaps & Photos

NOTES about the Mid-Atlantic Region:
Some years back a group of avid New Jersey and area states HO slot car racers formed under the guidance of Mr. Dave Simms. Dave ran a shop in Hamilton Square(Bordentown) New Jersey. They joined the HOCOC family of racing for the National Sportsman Late Model Championship Series. Since then Dave has moved to Pennsylvania but maintains his racing status and is still a parts provider. Along with this he maintains the status of HOCOC Mid-Atlantic Region Coordinator where he is the liason between HOCOC and that region of racing. The group has members from beginner to seasoned veterans. They have more than just the LMS class and all appear to be competitive and enjoy the fellowship of club racing. As races are run results are passed and posted here on a when I can basis. And BTW, some of the top and best racers come out of this region. If you are curious and might be interested contact Dave Simms or any member for information about the race schedule and attend some to see what they are about.

It was a great weekend for racing at Loh's Motor Speedway along the scenic Delaware River. Joe has a 6' x 16' TKO that is absolutely amazing & he added a few accessories that make it the big track to race on in New Jersey. Doors opened at 8:00 am & practice continued until 10:30 am.

Race#6, Jan. 14th, DCM Raceway
from the desk of Dave Simms

Gentlemen,

Hope everyone had a great holiday & a happy new year. The midseason break sure did racers a lot of good because there was plenty of laughin' & gigglin' going on during the races. We saw tons of awesome driving by the guys and the tracks were red hot. Doors opened at 8:30 with practice starting right away. We had a second time showing by Bobby Hill out of NYC and Ed Shultz from Perkasie. Cars were teched in about 10:30 and the racing began shortly thereafter. First up was:

Stock T-Jets w/ AFX Hubs &
a Willy body on the Tub:
PO Driver Laps
 1 David Simms 122
 2 Joe Loh 116
 3 Jeff Crosley 116
 4 JP Ricci 114
 5 Ron DiCicco 113
 6 Ed Shultz 109
 7 Kenny Provost 107
 8 Bobby Hill 96
 9 Anthony Zampelli 126 DQ...
...Aftermarket crown gear
10 Tim Duggins 118 DQ...
...Dash Magnets
Tech provided us the chance to review the rules on this one. This is a class from way back when. Stock T-Jet, strip an AFX for the hubs, then put a Willy on it, that's it. We went right over to the Max for the next class which was Late Model Sportsman:
  Late Model Sportsman:

PO Driver Laps
 1 David Simms 121
 2 Anthony Zampelli 121
 3 Joe Loh 118
 4 Jeff Crosley 115
 5 JP Ricci 112
 6 Ron DiCicco 109
 7 Tim Duggins 105
 8 Kenny Provost 104
 9 Ed Shultz 103
10 Bobby Hill 94

All cars passed tech and it was off for lunch, Anthony brought Pretzel rolls w/butter and ham. Once everyone's belly was full, it was back to the Tub and the Indy Class:
  Indy Class:

PO Driver Laps
 1 David Simms 125
 2 Anthony Zampelli 123
 3 Jeff Crosley 123
4 Ed Shultz 118 DCM built & sold.
 5 JP Ricci 115
 6 Joe Loh 112
 7 Ron DiCicco 112
 8 Tim Guggins 106
 9 Bobby Hill 102

All cars passed tech, but there was a couple of very close races within the race, great racing for sure. Our next get together is Feb 4th @ Loh's Motor Speedway. It's an absolutely beautiful 6' x 16" TKO situated in a ranch house along the Delaware River. The day's classes will be LMS, Grand Nationals & SK Modifieds (things a gonna get stupid at this one). So see you on the bricks.

3 Classes, 3 Winners

Gentlemen,

It was a beautiful weekend for racing at DCM & we had a couple of guests from the TKO region, Derek & Travis. It was great to see the guys and this was the first race on the new TKO 5 Lane track we had installed this past summer by Todd (he is an amazing craftsman).

After a hour & a half of practice, we started with the Vintage Tin class on the Tub bringing all back to the sixties with a Box Stock T-Jet w/ a 50's to early 60's Nascar Body. When the silicone dust settled it was:

We broke for lunch & Pizza from the local shop. Heading back to the Tub for the main event & some doorbangin'. We hit some new highs in lap totals because of the new TKO insert ( smooth & fast ). As the last buzzer sounded on the race, we totaled it up & it was:
Late Model Sportsman

Derek Sheaffer 145 laps 1st
Jeff Crosley 145 laps 2nd
Anthony Zampelli 144 laps 3rd
